Belize is an irresistible destination offering white-sand beaches, azure waters, swaying palms…
Plus, a low cost of living, investment opportunities, and welcoming English-speaking community…
Add to that, Belize offers both permanent and temporary residence options.
Those applying for permanent residency in Belize need to have been legally living in Belize for a minimum of one year at the time of making their application—having spent no more than 14 days outside of Belize during that period.
For those looking to invest in Belize but with commitments elsewhere which mean they cannot meet those in-country requirements there is another option.
Invest $250,000 or more in local real estate or a business and you become eligible for the Belize Temporary Residency (Investment) Visa, which allows you to live and work in Belize.
It’s renewable annually, and you’re eligible for permanent residency after you have resided in Belize for more than 365 days… though in reality, the permanent residency process takes years.
Temporary residency means driving to an immigration office every month and paying $100 to renew your tourist visa.

If you qualify for temporary residency, you may also include your spouse and children up to college age on your visa application.
While it is technically possible to handle the process of getting a Belizean temporary investment visa yourself, be aware the Belize immigration department is notoriously difficult to work with and even to get a hold of over the phone or by email.
If you want to get a temporary residency visa you should go in person (and be prepared to go a few times) or to get a local agent or lawyer to handle the process for you. You can contact our Belize attorney: info@lawbelize.bz

This development is close to restaurants and bars, right in the middle of a thriving tourist hot spot. Go here for the full details.
Alternatively, if you’re looking to escape the crowds and the world in general, then this off-grid, 98-acre inland residential community could be ideal for you. It’s a haven for freedom-seekers and nature lovers where you can buy a lot and build your dream home or buy one move-in ready. Find out more, here.
